V is for Vatic and Nicki Elson's Vibrizzio

For this year's A-Z Challenge I have selected a word from the dictionary for each day and written a story around it with a 100 word limit. For extra interest I have chosen words that are unknown or unfamiliar to me. All definitions are from the Oxford Dictionary & Thesaurus 2007 Edition. Today's word is: Vatic.

Vatic: (literary) Predicting what will happen in the future.

Chelsea normally kept her vatic abilities to herself. When she’d told Roshana she was going to break her leg falling off a horse, her former friend had laughed, then blamed Chelsea when it happened. And the visions didn’t always come true.

People didn’t want to know. But this was different. The entire school would be packed in the stadium like sardines, helpless when the ball was kicked to unleash a fireball that killed and maimed them.

Kickoff was in half an hour. She wasn’t going to go... But ridicule be damned. She rushed out without a word to her parents.

* * *

V is also for Vibrizzio, the enticing new release from blogger friend Nicki Elson!

Mini-blurb: "Lyssa Bates doesn't need a man. Not when the world is fully stocked with double A batteries and a wide array of options in Amazon's health and sexual wellness category."

My honest reaction to the blurb (as requested by Nicki!): Maybe us men could get together and hide all the batteries!

Hope everyone has a great weekend recharging their batteries for the final leg of the Challenge. Four days to go - we can do it!

Hi Nick - I definitely don't want to be Vatic .. sounds very difficult ... Chelsea put herself in a questionable position .. re the fireball ..

Vibrizzio - does look an enticing read .. good for Nicki Elson .. cheers Hilary

Ooh, love today's story! Vatic is an unfamiliar word to me, too.

Also, congrats to Nicki! LOL at hiding all the batteries...

A tricky talent, seeing the future. Ridicule, or blame, or guilt for not trying to stop something. I worry what the reaction will be to Chelsea's warnings.

It has advantages and disadvantages I guess!

Haha! Great twist at the end.

Yeah, go Chelsea! In that kind of situation, you kind of have to say something. Otherwise, the guilt...

That is either one very powerful ball or a hell of a dangerous sport they are playing. :D

Hope she can convince them.
Congratulations to Nicki.

Thanks for that new word. Chelsea's off to do her thing.

I'm thinking by the sound of that book, that the title is perfect. Gonna have to check it out. :)

What a dilemma! This one takes me back to Stephen King's The Dead Zone where the psychic main character has to make such decisions. I don't know if I'd want to be vatic.

I've written about character who have visions or can predict the future, but I never knew about the word Vatic.

Great book for V. Congrats to Nicki!

Love the word. I wonder if she's going out to try to stop it or to die too . . .

Oh what an enticing story! I'm adopting this new word - love it! Congrats to Nicki and I giggled at your comment on her blurb, Nick!

Great V word - even greater V story! Had me wanting more. It's amazing how little snippets have a way of teasing more from our imaginations. Mine went into overdrive.

Also, your mini blurb had me laughing. Congrats to Nicki, I wish her great success with Vibrizzio.

Nice V words today, Nick. Loved learning Vatic, so now I have another word for psychic. Congrats to Nicki.

Nicki Elson said...

Ha! I knew I'd love your reaction. But you wouldn't...you wouldn't really do that, right?? THank you so much for posting. :)

Congrats on making it this far in the challenge. Your Vatic story is an especially good one - in so few words you made me feel her conflict and the tension of the situation. I hope she makes it to the stadium on time!

Happy weekend!

Your reaction made me smile. Vibrizzio looks like a fun read. As for being vatic, well, it might come in handy, but you underscored the difficulties well.

I wonder if she'll be able to save anyone...

I liked your response about her blurb :) Wishing her success with the book!

Oh what a story! I hope she can convince people to leave the stadium.

Yep, we are almost there with the A/Z challenge; its been fun, though.

Brave girl to take a risk in order to save others. You've found so many words that are new to me.

Yikes, sit back and do nothing or risk ridicule? The guilt from doing nothing...

I can't believe all the great words I've learned this month. Thank you.

Chelsea better carry her vatic ass on in there and do something. You've written another tight, chilling story full of suspense. I love the blurb for the book and your reaction comment made me laugh so hard I nearly peed in my pants. No, we don't need all the men conspiring to hide all the batteries. That will not do. LOL.

Hey Nick, you won a gift card over on my blog. I just need for you to email me and let me know the address you want your Amazon e-gift card mailed to. Thanks for visiting my blog suing the challenge
