Gennikin
was woken by the alarm on his personal pad at 5am, as always. He liked to get
an early start on the day, even when his services were not required. No sense
wasting hours away on sleep – it was a purely functional activity. Dreams were
for less practical people. If he had them, he never remembered them.
After
a quick breakfast and shower, and while ensuring that his hair was parted with
military precision and held in place, he reflected on his wonderful role as
Advisor to the Supreme Grand Ruler of Harmonia. Making decisions that others
would be too afraid to make. “Ruthless”, they’d called him at school – but his
uncompromising qualities had been noted and he’d soon found himself invited to
join the upper echelons of society, adjudicating on matters that most people
had no idea about.
It
was better that they didn’t. They wouldn’t have been able to handle it.

Gennikin- the pragmatic and intimidating advisor. I admire your meticulous character portrayals.

Hi Nick - Gennikin - I hope he has some redeeming features as the story develops ... this bodes not well for the peasantry ... cheers Hilary

When it comes to dreams, I'm with Gennikin. "If he had them, he never remembered them." Me too.
Sounds like he knows is stuff and isn't afraid to voice his opinion. Whether that's a good or bad thing remains to be seen.

Intriguing character description.

Oh. He probably thinks he's a reasonable man. He's probably a villain.
Sleep is a functional activity?? He needs his head examined - sleep is to die for! Clearly he's not a father or baby sitter :-)
Intriguing contrast between the image that the name Gennikin conjures up and the character traits.

He sounds like an intriguing character - I do love a ruthless one!

Great snapshot of the character. The reader really walks away with a strong feel for him.
He clearly likes to be in charge - even of himself! A daunting character indeed.
Amble Bay's Village Hall!
But sleep is awesome! How could anyone not want to sleep in?????? LOL
I have to wonder if, based on the description, he happens to be a lucid dreamer as well. Control wherever he goes.
Hmmm .... spell Gennikin backwards and you have Nikinneg.
Hey, this is a fascinating character. I really like the way you let us discover his personality thorugh his thinking process.

Gennikin sounds like the villain your readers will love to hate. Real villains in the world no one likes, though. :) Happy character building and a2zing. Thanks for visiting Saturday's Art Sketching Through the Alphabet with little GIRLS!
He seems like a very interesting character, though I could never voluntarily wake up nearly that early!
