After
showing a natural aptitude in school experiments, Lunkin had quickly been
recruited into the government’s elite group of scientists and had spent the
past twenty years working his way to the top. Well, almost to the top. Only one
thing stood in his way: Professor George Tindleson.
Lunkin
didn’t have much time for the Chief Scientist’s affable ways. Frankly, the man
was a buffoon, as much a relic as the antiquated books and paintings he kept in
his office. Everyone else seemed to love him, but could he command them in a
crisis? Lunkin would do a much better job, he was sure. He just had to find the
right opportunity to fulfil his destiny.

Ooh, great snippet. Can only imagine what kind of trouble will result from Lunkin's sense of superiority!
Beautiful excerpt! I am wondering what kind of a prison it is and what crisis is Lunkin talking about ? Oh, the suspense!
Best wishes

I have a feeling Lunkin is not a nice guy.
Uh-oh, this guy sounds like he could be trouble. Anyone who thinks they have a destiny is usually trouble :)

Ooh, great idea for a topic! I loved this snippet. Nicely done!
Uh oh. I hope the Professor is watching his back.

Right opportunity means a lot.
Hope Lunkin finds what he wants.
Lunkin is well formed. Talented but narrow minded, all interesting in an intellectual.
Uh oh. And I'm sure he's going to find that opportunity... if he has to create it himself.
Oh, I just love unbridled ambition in a character. This is a guy to follow. Brings to mind the old adage: Keep your friends close ... and your enemies closer!
Of course - we all imagine we could do better! (In my case of course, this is perfectly true. I'm presuming Lunkin is similarly blessed.

Nick, sounds like Professor Tindleson has an enemy. That Lunkin is way too ambitious and it sounds like he's not above doing something bad to get what he wants, too.
