My insecurity this month is that despite making some public announcements, I've still not got down to writing again for the first time this year. Ideas are bubbling. Just got to take that leap to getting it down on screen which is proving a struggle for some reason, but this month will be the one!
Do I need a change of scenery, as proposed by this month's IWSG question - "If you could pick one place in the world to sit and write your next story, where would it be and why?"
This is a very good question. I've been lucky in that I've been able to travel quite a bit during my life, so I could summon up a range of stunning locations. How about a view of Uluru (Ayers Rock) in Australia as the sun goes down? (I envisage a nifty little desk set up in the desert.) Or on a Caribbean beach with ice cold beer in hand (I'm not much of a cocktail drinker) - it would need to be well shaded to avoid a glare on my laptop though, as I'm one of those people who likes to go straight to screen with a book. Maybe I'm overthinking it. I could go all intellectual by sitting in a pavement cafe on Paris's Left Bank. Really, though, I like to think I could write anywhere because the worlds I'm conjuring can't be seen from here and because as long as my wife is by my side, I've got the support I need to keep going - is that schmaltzy?

ooh to sit and write on a Caribbean beach. I was there earlier this year but didn't get any writing done. Distracted by those cocktails :) Paris sounds good too. My place to write? Back in the spare bedroom I used growing up. Seems that's the place I was truly most productive - and being young there were no adult responsibilities to distract me.
That's sweet that you just need your wife's support to write.

Having a supportive partner makes life so much better. I'm with you about a beer on the beach. Make mine Corona, please. Just wondering--do they make a shade for a laptop screen? I'd like to write on my deck, but the glare is too much until evening. Anyway, get writing. (I should follow my own advice.) You have the ideas. Do you need a well-placed kick? lol
It is schmaltzy, but that's great schmaltz! We all need that schmaltz!
Just throw an umbrella in the beer and you're set. Okay, make the umbrella, a lime wedge. Very beachy. ;)

Sometimes the screen is a difficult thing to stare at while trying to write. It's why I do all my first drafts on paper. I can sit anywhere that way and aren't locked to a computer screen.
Good luck getting back to writing. Sometimes it just is difficult to get to.
Ha Nick. Perhaps you need to write to a WEP prompt to wake your mojo up, LO)L. Hmm. Uluru. Great idea. The rock is burnished gold at times. Have an American friend who has just arrived there.

It's great that your wife is supportive of your writing. That's what helps me keep going too. Always be ready to take that leap when the moment comes!

It must be going around, Nick. I totally feel your pain. I've had so much going on that any time I have ideas of substance I never get to writing and then they pass or I end up with post its all over the place that make no sense. I need to reorganize my life, again. :) Here's to you finding success with that!
A wife's support is very important. Hope she like the desert.
If we've had a break from writing, for whatever reason, it can take a while to get going again. But sometimes we need those breaks, or just have no option but to take them. It's all part of the process.
The struggle is real, friend! I would likely pick a coastal area too, maybe on a tall place overlooking the coast. Did that once and got a chapter it, maybe I should do it again one of these days. :)
