The question prompt for this month's posting is: What is your favourite aspect of being a writer?
Well, this is quite a nice question as it deflects from my ongoing insecurity - trying to nail down the final part of my trilogy - and spins off into something else. While finishing a story is definitely one of my favourite aspects, I feel I'm still quite a way from finishing in this case. No, it's exploring those shiny new ideas that excites me the most - that exhilarating rush of carving out a story that's never been told before. New characters to dig into, possibly whole new worlds to map - it's all out there to be discovered!

Hi Nick - tying down, tidying up and finishing off a piece of writing is challenging .. while the thought of moving on with creativity is a delight ... just need to focus and settle - I hear you - good luck ... Hilary
Creativity always gives me a buzz. My favourite part is getting feedback from my readers. Have a lovely November.
Those shiny new ideas are really exciting...they are tempting...they beckon and promise new ideas/worlds just waiting to be discovered!

Awesome you're nearing the end of a series. I always worry about pulling it off and keeping the plot and character growth going.

It's those shiny new ideas that get me in trouble. I get distracted from digging deeper into the story and the characters I already have going.
I love your take on the question and reference to shiny new ideas. I always have lots of ideas popping into my head, sometimes to many to be able to just focus on one or two. Cheers- Ellen

I think the start of a story is my favorite part. When I reach the end, I'm a bit sad because it's over (despite editing needing to be done, but you get my point, right?)

I do love shiny new ideas!! Sometimes they frighten me, so it's when I hit the end that I breathe a sigh of relief.
We just hope those shiny new ideas don't become distractions.
Hello, Nick. Beginnings are great, it's true, but one of my favorite moment is when various dangling plot threads suddenly show me how to tie them up into a neat knot. Happy writing to you in November.
Third books have a tendency to do that. I hope you've got the reins and are using your firm voice. ;)

I just love writing, but boy, does it get overwhelming sometimes. There's a lot more to it than just putting words to paper :)
That would be a great feeling to have the creativity to think of new characters and situations and then to write the story about them. That would be a favorite aspect I could see!

Since I write the story as I'm going, I enjoy the discovery AS I'm writing. Regardless, it's great fun to create things!
I love discovering a new story idea and wondering where it's going to take you - the possibilities are endless! It's finishing stories that I find difficult!

I definitely love starting a story better than finishing it . . . I'm a pantser so I have a hard time deciding exactly how to end things b/c I'll have 3 ideas that all seem equally appealing.

Successfully creating something is such a heady feeling, it's almost addictive. Congratulations on making such great headway on your trilogy!

There is an exhilarating rush to writing. Especially when the story writes itself (or seems to)

I kind of think of it almost like interactive reading. When I've got a story, a good story, it just flows out of me faster than I even realize...so I find myself experiencing it as though I were reading. Unlike it, however, I can make changes where I want.
Nick - I also enjoy how the creative process can take you in different directions.
Sounds like you've been making great strides on your trilogy which is quite an accomplishment!

I agree with you. I like how you phrased it, "shiny new ideas." I am doing NaNoWriMo but am a bit behind. I think my story started off too quickly and I now have to back in and create more character with my characters (how's that for redundancy?!)
