V is for Vatic and Nicki Elson's Vibrizzio


For this year's A-Z Challenge I have selected a word from the dictionary for each day and written a story around it with a 100 word limit. For extra interest I have chosen words that are unknown or unfamiliar to me. All definitions are from the Oxford Dictionary & Thesaurus 2007 Edition. Today's word is: Vatic.

 Vatic: (literary) Predicting what will happen in the future.
Chelsea normally kept her vatic abilities to herself. When she’d told Roshana she was going to break her leg falling off a horse, her former friend had laughed, then blamed Chelsea when it happened. And the visions didn’t always come true.

People didn’t want to know. But this was different. The entire school would be packed in the stadium like sardines, helpless when the ball was kicked to unleash a fireball that killed and maimed them.

Kickoff was in half an hour. She wasn’t going to go... But ridicule be damned. She rushed out without a word to her parents.

    Hi Nick - I definitely don't want to be Vatic .. sounds very difficult ... Chelsea put herself in a questionable position .. re the fireball ..

    Ooh, love today's story! Vatic is an unfamiliar word to me, too.

    A tricky talent, seeing the future. Ridicule, or blame, or guilt for not trying to stop something. I worry what the reaction will be to Chelsea's warnings.

    That is either one very powerful ball or a hell of a dangerous sport they are playing. :D

    What a dilemma! This one takes me back to Stephen King's The Dead Zone where the psychic main character has to make such decisions. I don't know if I'd want to be vatic.

    I've written about character who have visions or can predict the future, but I never knew about the word Vatic.

    Great V word - even greater V story! Had me wanting more. It's amazing how little snippets have a way of teasing more from our imaginations. Mine went into overdrive.

    Also, your mini blurb had me laughing. Congrats to Nicki, I wish her great success with Vibrizzio.

    Congrats on making it this far in the challenge. Your Vatic story is an especially good one - in so few words you made me feel her conflict and the tension of the situation. I hope she makes it to the stadium on time!

    Chelsea better carry her vatic ass on in there and do something. You've written another tight, chilling story full of suspense. I love the blurb for the book and your reaction comment made me laugh so hard I nearly peed in my pants. No, we don't need all the men conspiring to hide all the batteries. That will not do. LOL.
