The question prompt for this month's posting is: What is your favourite aspect of being a writer?
Well, this is quite a nice question as it deflects from my ongoing insecurity - trying to nail down the final part of my trilogy - and spins off into something else. While finishing a story is definitely one of my favourite aspects, I feel I'm still quite a way from finishing in this case. No, it's exploring those shiny new ideas that excites me the most - that exhilarating rush of carving out a story that's never been told before. New characters to dig into, possibly whole new worlds to map - it's all out there to be discovered!

Hi Nick - tying down, tidying up and finishing off a piece of writing is challenging .. while the thought of moving on with creativity is a delight ... just need to focus and settle - I hear you - good luck ... Hilary

Awesome you're nearing the end of a series. I always worry about pulling it off and keeping the plot and character growth going.

ReplyDeleteIt's those shiny new ideas that get me in trouble. I get distracted from digging deeper into the story and the characters I already have going.

ReplyDeleteI think the start of a story is my favorite part. When I reach the end, I'm a bit sad because it's over (despite editing needing to be done, but you get my point, right?)

ReplyDeleteI just love writing, but boy, does it get overwhelming sometimes. There's a lot more to it than just putting words to paper :)
ReplyDeleteThat would be a great feeling to have the creativity to think of new characters and situations and then to write the story about them. That would be a favorite aspect I could see!

Since I write the story as I'm going, I enjoy the discovery AS I'm writing. Regardless, it's great fun to create things!

ReplyDeleteI definitely love starting a story better than finishing it . . . I'm a pantser so I have a hard time deciding exactly how to end things b/c I'll have 3 ideas that all seem equally appealing.

I kind of think of it almost like interactive reading. When I've got a story, a good story, it just flows out of me faster than I even realize...so I find myself experiencing it as though I were reading. Unlike it, however, I can make changes where I want.

I agree with you. I like how you phrased it, "shiny new ideas." I am doing NaNoWriMo but am a bit behind. I think my story started off too quickly and I now have to back in and create more character with my characters (how's that for redundancy?!)
